SHS boys, girls win on senior night

Straughn’s varsity boys and girls teams earned wins Tuesday on senior night against rival Red Level at SHS.
The varsity boys won 56-51, while the girls came away with a 51-38 victory over RLS.
In B-team action, Red Level won 53-47.
Varsity boys
Straughn 56, Red Level 51
Straughn led 27-23 at half time, and outscored Red Level 14-13 in the third period and were even at 15 points in the fourth to get the win.
Straughn seniors Austin Pickrel scored 15 points, Giavann Nurse had 12 points and Josh Henderson had two points.
J.D. Driver led Straughn with 16 points.
For Red Level, Troy Nolen led with 20 points, James Feagin had 10 points, Nick Dorsey had eight points, Raheem Bullock and Preston Ryce had four points each, K.J. Lawrence had three points and Justin Maddox had two points.
Red Level was 16-of-22 from the free-throw line, and Straughn was 6-of-9.
Varsity girls
Straughn 51, Red Level 38
Straughn senior Tiffany Taylor led with 13 points in her team’s win over Red Level.
Straughn led 18-7 after the first period, and 31-16 at half time. In the third period, Straughn outscored Red Level 14-5.
Jacie Williamson scored 12 points for Straughn. SHS senior Katy Messick had five points, senior Sierra Danford had four points, Katelyn Kinsaul had four points, Paige Taylor had four points, and Anjelica Bonham, Mariah Bonham and Audrey Driver had three points each.
Dionah Smith had 11 points and Kiaira Coleman had eight points to lead Red Level.
Red Leve was 6-of-13 from the free-throw line, and Straughn was 8-of-12.
B-team boys
Red Level 53, Straughn 47
Red Level’s Dee Tolbert scored 17 points, and J.T. Hall contributed with 13 points.
Straughn’s Brice Scott scored 25 points. J.C. Ray and Devin Scott scored six points each.
