Pleasant Home’s Kaitlin Brookshire and Straughn’s Riley Watson were selected as the Bryant-Jordan Class 1A and 4A, Region 2 winners.

Both will attend the annual awards banquet Monday night at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham.

The Bryant-Jordan award recognizes athletes that excel in the classroom as well as on the field.

Brookshire and Watson will receive a $2,500 scholarship to any college in the United States.

“I’m glad there’s somebody out there that recognizes people that work so hard through the years making good grades while playing sports,” Watson said.

Brookshire plays volleyball and softball at PHS, and Watson plays football at SHS.

Brookshire could not be reached for comment when the Star-News went to press Friday night.
