3 locals selected to All-State team

Straughn’s Paige Caraway, and Pleasant Home’s Brentin Fuller and Abigail Kelley were selected to the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s All-State softball team, which was released today.

Caraway was picked as a utility player on the first team in Class 4A; Fuller was picked as a pitcher on the first team in Class 1A; and Kelley was picked as an outfielder on the first team in Class 1A.

Caraway, a senior, served in a duel role for the Lady Tigers on the mound and at first base.

Caraway struck out 170 batters this season for Straughn, averaging 7.29 per game. She allowed 56 runs in 163.2 innings.

Behind the plate, Caraway had a 0.407 batting average, drove in 45 runs and had five home runs.

Fuller, a senior, allowed 103 hits and had a 1.86 ERA.

Kelley, a sophomore, had a 0.465 batting average, and drove in 11 for the Lady Eagles on 59 hits, scored 44 runs and stole 23 bases.

Kaitlynn Wiggins and Caitlin Jernigan were selected as honorable mentions on the Class 4A and 1A teams, respectively.

The All-State baseball team will not be released until Sunday.
