Pleasant Home’s varsity volleyball squad ended its 2011 regular season with a 25-17, 25-15 win over the Opp Lady Bobcats on Thursday night at PHS.

The Lady Eagles held a tri-match with the Lady Bobcats and the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers on senior night.

T.R. Miller beat Pleasant Home 2-1 (19-25, 25-20, 16-14) in the first match of the evening, then beat Opp 2-0 in the second match.

PHS volleyball coach Jerry Davis said he thought his team gave T.R. Miller a good match.

“We might have played the best we’ve played all year against T.R. Miller,” Davis said. “We played as well as we came to play.

“The third set (against T.R. Miller) came down to the wire,” he said. “We were down 13-9, and came back to lead 14-13. That was tough.”

Davis said the win against Opp was “big” for the team.

“They’re down some kids, and we’ve got a few hurt, too,” he said. “We filled in, and played pretty well. I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Playing in a tri-match like this, with this competition is big right now.”

Pleasant Home will participate in the Class 1A, Area 2 volleyball tournament on Monday in Kinston. The No. 2 seed Lady Eagles will play No. 3 seed Florala at 2 p.m. to start the single-elimination tournament. The finals will take place right after the first match against Kinston, who is the No. 1 seed.

No. 2 seed Opp will participate in the Class 3A, Area 2 volleyball tournament on Monday in Geneva. The Lady Bobcats will play Pike County at 5 p.m., right after the Geneva-Luverne match at 4 p.m.

The winner and runner up from each area tournament will advance to play in the regional tournament next Sat., Oct. 15.
