Twenty-two unanswered points in the second half weren’t enough for Red Level.
Zion Chapel scored 35 points in the first quarter, and the Rebels beat the Tigers 35-29 on Friday night at Bobby Dye Stadium in Red Level.
“It was a totally different team and a totally different effort,” RLS head football coach Tony Ingram said about the second half. “You can’t wait until you’re down 35 to do that.”
When asked specifically what changed in the team, Ingram said the players reacted well to the adjustments the coaches made.
“They bought into them. They started playing,” he said. “The effort was all across the board. They came together, finally.”
Raheem Bullock had 19 carries for 143 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers. James Feagin had six carries for 68 yards.
Seventh grader Onterrio Nearor had four tackles and a fumble recovery for RLS.
Bullock paced Red Level with 10 tackles and Caleb Varner added nine. O’Brien Carthon had five tackles.
The Tigers will play host to top-ranked Elba next week.
